Class Discussion

1. One symbol I notice pop up a good amount is the sheriff star. This star stands for any form of law enforcement and seems to be the opposition of the comic book. This symbol also presents itself in any threatening situation as a almost ironic notion of protection and respect.

2. When it comes to a connection of anything relevant in my life, the most noticeable thing I saw was the notion of how when characterized by something, such as being a priest, people can treat you a certain way or expect something out of you. When turning this around and turning a priest into a almost destructive being, it then brings the question of what is truly right or wrong. This related to me through asking myself the same question in every day life.

3. If I would adapt this to a medium I am close with I would choose a video game. Some changes I personally would make not adding any part of a producing companies hold on it, I would make more of a use of a interesting mechanic when it came to the characters and how they acted in there struggle to survive. The opposition would be much stronger then  few hillbilly racist cop thugs.

Week 9 Comic Hugo Pratt inspired

This is a Hugo Pratt inspired comic showing the tale of a sailor and his battle at seas with the White Whale

For this weeks comic Referring back to Robert Crumb and skimming over his comics, he seems to look at the women as a beautiful and voluptuous being. His comics almost seem to reflect the thoughts and imagination that was going on in his head. By using this element, I have created a comic that shows this but in a way. By creating a beautiful women all the men would swoon for but in fact it is a man who is the trickster.

Shaun Tans The Arrival telling the story

After reading over this comic it was very intresting to realise and discover a certain pattern the artist uses to keep the flow of the story and to not lose the reader. Shaun seperates his pages out into almost a rythmic pattern. Whether using close up face shots or and expansive scene, he will put drawings together to create a almost animatic. He will usually start with an image of a close up of a character, then from there another five pages of some movement or action the characters is displaying. He then normally would go into a vast expanding shot of the environment around him. This sets up all his scenes and shots and benifits through making it clear to the reader how and what specifically is happening in this beutiful and imaganative world.
After reading the book, I then found a animation video that goes through it with sound capture and in a really interesting way brings it to life. Just in this is is clear how action can be used and clear just through the pictures and hints of an author and artist. Heres the Link to the video!
